HCA's New Gymnasium

The spectacular new gymnasium at Harrells Christian Academy that was once a dream is now a reality. This beautiful new addition adjacent to the high school building is something in which we can all take pride.

Mrs. Kim Bowles, an HCA Coach, said, “The new gymnasium is absolutely beautiful! I am so excited about having practice on it; the new floor is so nice! I’m really, really happy about it!” Mrs. Bowles’ thoughts are a reflection of how many individuals feel about the new practice area.

Members of the six basketball teams are excited that they will be able to practice earlier each afternoon. This is because all six teams will not need to share one court for practices. The new gym means that HCA will have three practice courts, not just one.

Keep those floors warm, Crusaders! Best of luck this season!

Meet George Burress

There’s a new face on the campus of Harrells Christian Academy. You may have seen him sweeping the floors, cleaning windows, or making HCA beautiful in some other way. The name of the newest member of our maintenance crew is Mr. George Burress.

Harrells Christian Academy may not be the only place where you might find Mr. Burress. Surprisingly, you might see him speeding by you on the road. He has ridden motorcycles for almost twelve years. He has had his motorcycle license since he was 16.

Mr. Burress, a native of West Virginia, comes to us from Clinton City Schools. He worked for Clinton City Schools for ten years. Mr. Burress says that he absolutely loves it here at Harrells Christian Academy! In an interview he said, “Everybody here is so nice. I am glad to be part of such a great family and I look forward to helping Harrells in many ways.”

HCA Students Are Seeing Stars

Harrells Christian Academy students had the unique experience of seeing stars thanks to the UNCW Science and Mathematics Education Center. The portable STARLAB portable planetarium was set up in the gymnasium for students to view.

The planetarium allowed students to view stars, constellations, and planets seen in the night sky. Many students were excited about crawling through the tunnel to view the stars. Christian McLaughlin, a ninth grade student said this about the planetarium: “It was really fun! I’ve never seen anything like it before!”

Classes are scheduled to visit the STARLAB throughout the week. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, contact Lynn Graham or Joy Usher. Happy viewing!
